Education is important—the foundation of learning and development.

PCL has made a financial commitment to education through the provision of numerous scholarships and internships to students in the communities where it operates. Though some of these students work in PCL offices, many others receive support across a wide variety of disciplines outside the field of construction.

The goal of the Student Scholarship is to recognize one or more students annually who exceeds expectations in their role at PCL, exhibits passion for construction and demonstrates potential to be a future leader at PCL.
The most recent recipient of the scholarship, Matthew Derkach, completed three work terms with the BC Region. As a civil engineering student, Matthew served during his last work term as the primary contact for the structural consultant.

The Peter Stalenhoef Student Scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership, teamwork, PCL’s values, and strong work ethic—all traits that Peter fostered in his employees.
Justin Brown, Jin Wang, Adriano Zaffino, and Emily Marino received the most recent Peter Stalenhoef Student Scholarships. The four winners were selected for their scholarships from a pool of over 40 nominations.

The recruitment and development of college students is crucial to the continued growth of PCL’s operations in the United States. Under the PCL US College Program, interns have the opportunity to receive special recognition and a monetary award. Each district office selects a Top Intern of the Year based on the student’s ability to exceed expectations in his/her role, exhibit passion for the industry, and demonstrate the potential to be a future leader at PCL. The Top Intern of the Year receives a cash bonus of $1000 (net) and advances for consideration for the overall US Student of the Year award.  The US Student of the Year is selected by the president and COO of US Operations and receives a trip to PCL’s US Head Office in Denver to meet with the executive team.
