EDMONTON, AB – The United Way of the Alberta Capital Region received a record-breaking $2-million donation from the PCL employees in front of more than 500 United Way supporters at the annual United Way Breakfast of Champions this morning. PCL is the first organization in the 70-year history of United Way of the Alberta Capital Region to achieve this significant milestone, beating its own precedent-setting achievement of over $1.6 million in 2010.
“Our PCL United Way campaign theme of Come2gether helped us unite to meet our $2-million target,” said Jason Idler, 2011 United Way employee campaign chair for PCL in Edmonton. “We set out to break our own best mark and raise the most funds ever for the Alberta Capital Region United Way campaign. I am so proud of all PCLers in our Edmonton and area offices for coming together and reaching this goal—we did it!”
This is a personal best for this region and was achieved through the generosity of individual employees and a corporate match from PCL in Edmonton. PCL companies also host successful United Way campaigns in their local communities across North America.
Anne Smith, president and CEO of United Way, Alberta Capital Region, expressed gratitude on behalf of this region’s United Way. “PCLers are known for their commitment to community—it’s a culture of giving that is promoted by PCL leaders and upheld by all their employees. Not only does PCL talk the talk, but also they walk the walk. They donate a significant amount of personal time volunteering, and this organization has more Leadership Donors than any other in our region. To say that this presentation of $2 million is a significant achievement would be an understatement.”
“This year’s fundraising target was very ambitious, and reaching the $2 million mark in donations demonstrates our can-do attitude and employee commitment to supporting our community through the valuable services offered by the United Way and its partners,” said Paul Douglas, PCL president and CEO.
United Way is counting on the community to help them surpass their goal of $21.5 million in the 2011 fundraising campaign. Funds are reinvested in the community to create positive and meaningful change and address the most pressing issues and challenges we face together as a region.
