Under a current $272-million contract with Sound Transit, PCL has been working on Puget Sound’s new light rail since April 2005. The contract includes building approximately five miles of elevated guideway, nearly one mile of “at grade” guideway and the Tukwila light rail station with adjacent park and ride facility. This section of light rail will link with five other contracts to form the first leg of Sound Transit’s new 15.6-mile light rail system, linking downtown Seattle to SeaTac Airport. The PCL team will now dismantle the yellow 500-ton gantry crane that was used to set 161 spans on a five-mile stretch of guideway from the 120th Street overpass by SeaTac Airport to MLK Boulevard. Once the gantry crane is removed, signal systems will be installed and light rail trains will be tested. The entire Central Link Light Rail system is expected to be open to the public in July 2009. PCL Construction Services, Inc. (Seattle) is part of the PCL family of companies, the largest contracting organization in Canada and the eighth largest in the United States. The PCL family has major offices in 27 locations across continental North America, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Caribbean.
