Fort Edmonton Park is a premiere tourist attraction located in Edmonton’s river valley that preserves the city’s rich history by recreating the architecture, culture, and transportation of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Edmonton. The PCL donation — an exact replica of a job shack used at Poole Construction’s first project in Edmonton, the Edmonton Public Library — has found a perfect home there. The job shack had been a fixture at the PCL business park in south Edmonton since early 2006. The donation was made in honor of all PCLers who have helped to grow our company over the last century, and in honor of the Poole family — especially John Poole who passed away earlier this year. John was the former owner of Poole Construction Ltd. (now PCL) and son of Poole founder Ernie Poole. Building the Job Shack The job shack was built during our centennial to honor one hundred years of construction excellence. PCL Edmonton superintendent Rick Lesyshen led construction of the shack. It was built using materials authentic to the time period, and the craftsmanship echoes the pride and attention to detail that has long been a cornerstone of PCL projects. Accordingly, each piece of the job shack is handmade, from the old plank floors with original wood plugs to the writing desk at which labor hours would have been logged by hand. The PCL family of companies is the largest contracting organization in Canada and the eighth largest in the United States. The PCL family has major offices in 27 locations across continental North America, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Caribbean. The group’s North American Headquarters is in Edmonton, Alberta and its U.S. Head Office is in Denver, Colorado. Watch us build at www.pcl.com.
