PCL Edmonton Building Three Major Projects

EDMONTON, Alberta -- PCL Construction Management Inc. (Edmonton) is building three major projects worth a combined value of approximately $600 million: the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (CCIS), the Southgate Centre Expansion and South Light-Rail Transit (LRT) Extensions.

Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (CCIS)

This project is a state-of-the-art facility on the historic quadrangle of the University of Alberta valued at approximately $300 million. It will bring together students, professors, and researchers from a variety of science departments to create a unique approach to scientific discovery. CCIS will be a signature building in terms of architecture, functionality, and sustainable design. It is scheduled to open in 2010.

Southgate Centre Expansion

This $89-million project requires a 155,000-square-foot addition to the existing shopping space and two levels of parking directly above the expansion.

The new parking area will be serviced by escalators and elevators flowing down into the expansive grand atrium area. The existing parkade will also be improved including a rehabilitation of the upper parking surface and the addition of two new vestibules and elevators. Completion is scheduled for 2009.

South Light-Rail Transit (LRT) Extensions

PCL Construction Management Inc. (Edmonton) has been awarded several South LRT contracts, totaling $219 million. These contracts include extensive infrastructure work including complex tunneling and the construction of transit stations. Scheduled completion of these contracts is early 2009.
