PCL Industrial Companies to Build $400-Million Project Near Edmonton

EDMONTON -- PCL Industrial Constructors Inc. will build the $400-million Residue Hydro Conversion Unit for Shell Canada in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and be completed in early 2010.

This unit will be the largest within Shell’s 100,000 barrels-per-day Scotford Upgrader Expansion project, located at the Scotford Refinery and Upgrader just outside of Edmonton. PCL Industrial Constructors Inc., PCL Industrial Fabrication & Module Facility, and PCL Intracon Power will contribute approximately three million work hours to the project and more than $100 million in fabrication and module assembly work.

“We have been working with Shell and their engineer, Bechtel, on preconstruction support for the last eighteen months so it is especially gratifying to be moving forward to the next stage, “ says Ian Johnston, senior vice-president, Heavy Industrial for PCL Constructors Inc.

PCL Industrial Constructors Inc., PCL Industrial Management Inc. and PCL Intracon Power are three of the several independent construction operations that make up the PCL family of companies, the largest contracting organization in Canada and the tenth largest in the United States. The PCL family has major offices in twenty-seven locations across continental North America, the Hawaiian Islands and the Bahamas.
