Gathered to celebrate the official launch of this $4-billion project were representatives from North West Upgrading; PCL Industrial’s joint-venture partner, SNC Lavalin Inc.; and PCL Industrial Management Inc. In total, nearly forty team members were onsite, representing approximately 3000 people who will eventually assemble to complete this project. Gary Vassie, chief operating officer at North West Upgrading, said at the event, “It’s great to see something tangible after all of the preparatory work that has been completed so far. With PCL and SNC Lavalin on board, I am sure we are on track to complete a successful project.” PCL Industrial’s portion of the work, valued at approximately $1.6-billion, includes overall construction management, procurement, and construction of four upgrader units. FORT SASKATCHEWAN, Alberta -- PCL Industrial Management Inc. helped with an official opening and site development kick-off at the North West Upgrader site near Edmonton on Wednesday, October 10. Onsite activities are now underway, and construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
