PCL’s BC Region Starts Work on Two of Abbotsford’s Three Projects

ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia -- PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. (BC Region) has started work on two of the City of Abbotsford’s three projects. Abbotsford’s Mayor George Ferguson officially broke the ground at the Abbotsford Cultural Centre, Museum and Art Gallery site on Tuesday, June 13 and the expansion work on the Abbotsford Community Recreation Centre began this week. Construction of the 7,000-seat Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre will begin in July.

All three City of Abbotsford projects are design build, with PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. (B.C. Region) serving as the lead.

Abbotsford Cultural Centre, Museum and Art Gallery
The 20,000-square-foot facility will provide dynamic exhibitions and interactive events telling the Abbotsford community story. It will include a great hall, exhibition, studio, administration and curatorial spaces.

PCL is partnering with Toby Russell Buckwell and Partners, Hughes Condon Marler Architects, Read Jones Christoffersen and Stantec Consulting on this project.

Abbotsford Community Recreation Centre
The Community Recreation Center is a 58,000-square-foot addition to the existing recreation center. It will provide additional gymnasiums, workout areas, senior, youth and children programming areas, as well as an elevated running track. One level of underground parking will also be added.

PCL is partnering with Hughes Condon Marler Architects, Read Jones Christoffersen and Stantec Consulting on this project.

Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre
This multipurpose sports and entertainment facility will serve as a major entertainment venue for the Fraser Valley region, featuring 7,000-fixed seats, twenty private suites, fifteen logo boxes and club seats. The concrete, structural steel and precast concrete three-level building will be clad with masonry, Hardie and metal panels, storefront glazing and a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO ) roof system.

PCL is partnering with PBK Architects and Genivar on this project.
