Paul Douglas Named PCL's President and Chief Executive Officer

EDMONTON, Alberta – Paul Douglas was formally introduced today as the new president and chief executive officer of the PCL family of companies at PCL’s North American Headquarters in Edmonton, Alberta. He was introduced by outgoing CEO and new executive chairman, Ross Grieve. Joe Thompson, PCL’s chairman until October 31, 2009, remains with the general contracting organization as a board director.

Paul takes over lead responsibility for PCL’s group of independent construction companies across Canada, the continental United States, Alaska, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Caribbean. More than 3,300 full-time professional and administrative salaried staff and more than 6,500 hourly tradespeople work together in the PCL family to create an annual construction volume of more than $6 billion. This volume makes PCL the largest general contracting organization in Canada and the seventh largest in the United States.

We have managed through many cycles in the past and I am tremendously confident that we will be even stronger as we come through this one,” said Paul Douglas, PCL’s new president and CEO. Paul went on to stress the importance of all PCL employees continuing to model construction excellence and live the PCL values, which have been at the root of the organization’s success since 1906.

Paul’s 24-year PCL career has taken him across Canada, serving in Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Ottawa, and Toronto. He returned to Edmonton in 1997 in the role of president and chief operating officer, Canadian buildings and civil infrastructure operations. From November 1, 2008, until October 31, 2009, Paul was chief operating officer of PCL’s Canadian Operations.

In 2004, Paul was the recipient of the Canadian Construction Association’s General Contractor Award of Excellence – Robert Saunders Memorial Award in recognition of his contribution to the Canadian construction industry. In 2008, he was inaugurated into the Canadian Design-Build Institute’s College of Fellows for his outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the Canadian design-build industry.
Paul holds a bachelor of applied science degree in civil engineering from the University of Toronto and is a Gold Seal certified project manager.
