CFD New Fire Headquarters

Project Overview

This 4,712-square-meter, four-floor concrete structure is the new headquarters for the Calgary Fire Department (CFD); it replaces the previous building owing to hazardous materials and poor indoor air quality. The building includes a public museum and memorial plaza to honor fallen firefighters, and was constructed next to an operational fire department.

The client’s goal was to attain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification, and the project is well on its way to achieving this. The team was challenged to begin the concrete structure and underground construction work during the winter months, and in addition there was a schedule delay due to underground utilities. Through the efficient and sequenced work maintained with trade contractors and the project team, the structure finished under budget and on time, with the exception of seasonal site work.
