Factoria Recycling and Transfer Station

Project Overview

PCL Construction recently completed the Factoria Recycling and Transfer Station in Bellevue, Washington. Built for King County Solid Waste Division as a lump-sum project, this new facility replaced the old, inefficient transfer station with a 78,248 square-foot LEED® Gold facility. It was constructed in four phases and sequenced so that the facility could maintain service to customers throughout construction.

The project consisted of the demolition of three existing structures onsite, construction of a waste and recycle transfer building, administration building, household hazardous waste facility, numerous structural earth wall retaining systems, permanent and temporary soldier pile and lagging shoring walls, 14 deep water dewatering wells, extensive earthwork and underground utility work, 88,000 square feet of site concrete paving, 185,000 square feet of hot mix asphalt paving, and extensive landscaping.
