This 83,000-square-foot, design-build office building is the second LEED® Gold building on PCL’s North American Headquarters campus, fortifying PCL’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Completed in 18 months, Building 5 provides additional office space for over 200 people and numerous support facilities. An 80-person training room with wireless technologies, a corporate data center, a fitness center, and a state-of-the-art executive board room are some of its modern amenities.
Sustainability was a major driver throughout the project. Key components included site planning, energy conservation and efficiency, efficient water systems, a focus on recycled and regional materials, and indoor air quality. The building incorporates a high-performance building envelope, heat-recovery systems, low-lighting power densities, and green roofs. The building’s E shape allows for abundant natural light throughout the office spaces and makes for an inviting and comfortable place to work.
Building on a fully operational campus and tying into existing building systems required clear and ongoing communication with multiple user groups and a commitment to minimizing disruptions. A strong, collaborative relationship allowed the project team to limit disruptions and shorten the construction schedule, all while adhering to the project budget, resulting in a building that set new standards for the PCL campus.
