PCL Senior Construction Manager Gopinath Govindraj said, “Having Canada’s Health Minister visit the VCCC site was an honour. Minister Ambrose was pleased by the progress, the unique urban design of the façade, the sheer size of the project, and how this facility when complete will benefit the Cancer Research and Treatment program.”
Minister Ambrose was in Melbourne for the 20th International AIDS Conference, but was able to find the time to visit a homegrown company’s first project “down under.” State of Victoria Health Minister David Davis also joined the tour.
The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) is PCL's first project in Australia.  A new 13-storey above ground, 6 floors below grade building will include 160 overnight beds, a 42 bed intensive care unit, eight radiation therapy bunkers, and eight operating theatres.  There will also be 269 thousand square feet of research space.
Minister Ambrose said, "Australia and Canada share mutual health priorities, such as promoting active and healthy living, indigenous health, chronic disease prevention, and addressing the health challenges of aging populations." She added, “I appreciate that PCLers have relocated all the way from Canada for this important project.”
