LONDON, Ontario – The PCL family of companies congratulates Brad Nelson, president and chief operating officer, PCL Constructors Canada Inc., on receiving an honorary diploma from Fanshawe College during the school’s commencement ceremonies on June 15.

PCL's Brad Nelson receives honorary diploma from Fanshawe College president Dr. Howard Rundle.

“The recipient of an honorary diploma must have had a unique and outstanding impact at a local, provincial, national, or global level,” said Fanshawe College president, Dr. Howard Rundle. “Brad Nelson is one of Canada’s pre-eminent construction executives; he has been instrumental to the growth of the Canadian industry, and he has significantly enriched the lives and careers of Fanshawe College’s students and alumni.”PCL Constructors has hired dozens of Fanshawe graduates many of whom are now employed in senior positions, and manage some of the largest construction projects in the world.

“I am honored and humbled at being awarded this honorary diploma,” said Nelson. “Thirty-six years ago when I graduated from Fanshawe’s civil engineering technology program, I wasn’t able to attend my convocation. I was fortunate to have gotten a job right out of school and, well, I was broke so I couldn’t afford to take a day off to attend my own convocation ceremony. So, being here at the college I attended, with the graduating class of the same program I was part of, is very special.”

Having invested more than thirty years in the North American construction industry, Nelson has extensive practical construction experience both in the field and in a senior management capacity. He is an active member of the construction business community, having served as director of both the Ontario General Contractors Association and the Canadian Construction Association. He is a current board member of the Canadian Commonwealth Athletes Foundation.

As president and chief operating officer of PCL’s Canadian buildings and civil infrastructure operations, Nelson is responsible for ensuring project teams are provided with the necessary support and resources to meet their projects’ scheduling, cost, and quality requirements.
