TAMPA, FL - The PCL family of companies is pleased to announce that PCL Civil Constructors, Inc. has been awarded a $94-million contract to replace the Flagler Memorial Bascule Bridge for the Florida Department of Transportation, District 4.
The project includes the design and construction of a replacement for the existing Flagler Memorial Bridge on SR A1A in Palm Beach County, Florida. The existing bridge is a four-lane undivided section with a low-level bascule bridge crossing the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway. The project requires complete replacement of the existing bridge with a new four-lane divided urban-section bridge. The proposed bridge includes 12-foot-wide travel lanes, 8-foot-wide shoulders and a 15.5-foot-wide median. Traffic barriers and separated 8-foot sidewalks will be included along both sides. Vertical clearance of the new bridge above the Intracoastal Waterway will be 21 feet, with the bascule spans in the closed position. Roadway modifications will also be made on the east and west approaches, and a new at-grade intersection will be constructed at Flagler Drive and A1A.
This is a design-build project, with PCL contracting with Hardesty-Hanover, LLP to complete designs. Design work will commence in May 2011, with construction scheduled to begin in November 2011 and complete in November 2014.
