Edmonton, Alberta (November 2, 2015) – The PCL family of companies is pleased to announce that succession planning is in place for its position of President and Chief Executive Officer. PCL first unveiled its “Office of the CEO” structure, consisting of eight senior executives, in 2013. President and CEO Paul Douglas took over the lead position from Ross Grieve in 2009 and knows how crucial it is for an organization to have an effective succession plan. PCL has a successful and proven track record in implementing this process.

All changes are effective November 1, 2015. Highlights of the succession announcement are as follows:
  • Dave Filipchuk, President and COO, Canadian and Australian Operations, will become Deputy CEO. Filipchuk has been with PCL for 31 years and possesses a wealth of knowledge of both the company and the construction industry.
  • Rob Holmberg will assume the role of President and COO, Canadian and Australian operations. Holmberg has been with PCL for 28 years.
  • Chris Gower will take on the position of COO, Buildings. Gower has been with PCL for 20 years.
  • Gordon Panas remains as CFO.
  • Steve Richards remains as General Counsel.
  • Shaun Yancey remains as President and COO, US Operations.
  • Ian Johnston remains as COO, Heavy Industrial.
  • Luis Ventoza remains as COO, Civil Infrastructure.
“Succession planning is all about having the right people in the right place at the right time,” said Douglas in talking about handing over the reins to Filipchuk. “We take succession seriously at all levels of our organization and make sure an appropriate amount of time is provided for a seamless transition to preserve continuity in our business. Dave Filipchuk has my, and the entire board of directors’, full support in officially becoming the seventh CEO of this great company in November 2016.”
During his 30 years with PCL so far, and besides leading PCL to some of its most successful years to date, Douglas has been recognized with numerous accolades. The latest is being named to Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People List by Alberta Venture magazine.

It is intended that this new Office of the CEO structure will remain in place until November 1, 2016, at which time Filipchuk will succeed Douglas as President and CEO. At that time Douglas will assume the role of Executive Chairman, working full time in transition with the new President and CEO until February 1, 2017, at which time he will become Chairman, and his full-time responsibilities will cease.
