Denver – Buildings Construction

Denver, CO (September 1, 2015) – PCL Construction Services, Inc. in Denver, has broken ground for the newest fire station at the Denver International Airport (DIA)–Fire Station 35.

The station will be the airport’s first fire station open to the public, and firefighters will respond primarily to public safety events at airport structures. The 18,000-square-foot station will resemble an airplane hangar, complete with an arched roof, and is expected to achieve US Green Building Council (USGBC)’s LEED® Gold certification. Construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.
“This new fire station will enhance the ability of our partners at the Denver Fire Department to respond to areas that are farther away from the airfield, such as the Federal Aviation Administration’s radar control center, Peña Boulevard, Final Approach, the south campus, and the new Westin Hotel and RTD train stations on airport property,” said Denver International Airport CEO Kim Day.

PCL celebrated its 40th anniversary in Denver this year, and its history with the Denver International Airport spans 20 years, beginning with the construction of the airport’s main terminal. Since 1995, PCL has collaborated with DIA to complete more than 40 projects, including the iconic terminal, lobby renovations, and parking garages.

“PCL remains a strong supporter of DIA’s future success and we look forward to providing an exceptional facility as the project’s design-builder,” said Frank Terrasi, district manager for PCL. “It’s an honor to build Fire Station 35 and we thank the Denver Fire Department for their continued efforts in protecting our communities.”
