EDMONTON, Alberta (March 4, 2014) – The PCL family of companies announced their highest United Way fundraising total in history, after raising $7.18 million for agencies across North America in 2013.
“PCL has worked with United Way for over 40 years to help create positive change in our communities,” said Paul Douglas, PCL president and CEO. “It’s remarkable to watch all of our offices come together each year with fresh ideas and enthusiasm for their campaigns.”
Thirty PCL offices in Canada and the US ran United Way fundraising campaigns. The Winnipeg office won the Campaign Chair Award from United Way of Winnipeg and several PCL offices across Canada received award nominations from their local agencies.
In Edmonton, Alberta, the campaign total of $2.45 million surpassed PCL’s previous record donation of $2.3 million in 2012, making it the largest donation from a private-sector contributor ever received by United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. One of the most successful campaign events challenged Edmonton-area PCL offices to bring items for donation to the Edmonton Food Bank, a member agency of United Way. More than 70,000 individual food items were donated, and $5,600 in cash was raised.
“PCL’s continuing support makes a significant impact in the local community,” said Anne Smith, United Way Alberta Capital Region president and CEO. “They are helping to fund essential programs and services that can change the social conditions and lives of those in need and help lead us to our shared vision of a poverty-free region.”
PCL began partnering with United Way in 1969. Offices throughout North America participate in annual campaigns to help raise money for local United Way agencies. The campaigns are led by employees and give them the opportunity to contribute by donating money and participating in special events.
