OTTAWA, ON (July 21, 2015) – PCL Construction has recently won the competitive process to become the Construction Managers on the high profile renovation of Canada’s home of the performing arts, the National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa.
The NAC will be transformed by a glass entrance, atrium lobby, performance and event spaces that will allow the building to embrace the nation’s capital for the first time. The NAC was a Centennial Project, and opened in 1969. The NAC presents more than 1,300 performances a year, and is the largest performing arts centre in the country.
“As the PCL Ottawa district celebrates its 25th year in the nation’s capital, we are very excited and proud to be working with the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and playing an important role in transforming this Canadian landmark. As we approach Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, this renewal will bring great energy to the downtown core by showcasing the performing arts, education and introducing new event spaces with one of the most beautiful views in the country,” said Kevin Skinner, vice president and district manager for PCL’s Ottawa operations. “We are truly excited about this project and we see similarities with a theatrical experience. Over the next two years we will rehearse, bring the program together and enable the public to watch the show as it unfolds.”
“PCL has an extraordinary international reputation,” said the President and CEO of the National Arts Centre. “They understand our business, and that the show must go on no matter what during construction. We are proud they are on our team as we build an exciting future for the NAC to mark an important milestone in Canadian history, our 150th Anniversary as a country.”

The public will begin to see construction during the summer of 2016, with the majority of the work happening on site over a 13 month period. The rejuvenated NAC will open on Canada Day in 2017, as part of the national celebrations marking the 150th Anniversary of Confederation.
