EDMONTON, Alberta (March 11, 2014) –The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) recognized two leaders from PCL Construction for their significant contributions to the construction industry in Canada. PCL president and CEO Paul Douglas was presented with the CCA Community Leader Award, while vice president, PCL Constructors Westcoast Anibal Valente received the CCA General Contractor of the Year Award.
“This recognition from the CCA is a tremendous honor, both personally as a recipient, and professionally as an employee of PCL,” said Douglas. “At PCL, we strive to excel in our industry and give back to the communities in which we live and work, so these two awards really affirm that commitment.”
The CCA Community Leader Award was presented to Douglas on the basis of his personal service to the community through organizations like the University Hospital Foundation, the President’s Think Tank at the University of Alberta, and the G20 High Level Panel on Infrastructure Development, but also for the community leadership that inspires PCL to donate millions annually to charitable organizations across North America. The CCA Community Leader Award is presented to an individual or firm committed to the betterment of the community.
Anibal Valente was named CCA General Contractor of the Year in recognition of his service to several construction industry associations, including the Saskatchewan Construction Association, the British Columbia Construction Association, and the CCA. Valente was also recognized for his leadership with the Vancouver Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership, a project that successfully matched hundreds of Aboriginal workers with construction industry jobs leading up the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. The CCA General Contractor of the Year Award recognizes a CCA general contractor’s commitment and dedication to the industry or to the CCA General Contractors Council.
“I am very proud to be named the CCA General Contractor of the Year,” said Valente. “It is a privilege to serve the construction industry and I am humbled to receive this recognition from my peers.”
The CCA awards were handed out at an awards ceremony in Panama City on March 11, 2014.
Representing over 20,000 members, the CCA is the voice of the national non-residential construction industry in Canada.
