Calgary, AB (October 21, 2014) – PCL Construction is pleased to announce that it has received the Award of Excellence from the Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI) for the Glacier Skywalk in Jasper National Park, AB, and an honorable mention for the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse in Ottawa, ON.
“PCL is honored to win this award for Glacier Skywalk, and we thank the Canadian Design-Build Institute for this recognition,” said Blaine Maciborsky, vice president, PCL Calgary. “Through the design-build model, the team, including Read Jones Christoffersen and Sturgess Architecture, was able to realize Brewster Travel Canada’s vision to design and build a world-class attraction that provides visitors with awe-inspiring views of the natural wilderness of Jasper National Park.”
The Glacier Skywalk’s award-winning design features a cantilevered, trapezoidal box-girder structural design and an innovative curved, cable-supported and glass-floored viewing platform that allows visitors to look straight down 280 meters. Skywalk video

“The Quinte Courthouse is a wonderful addition to the Belleville community, as the style and architecture appears to completely complement the class and eloquence of the area. Our client and all the tradespeople, contractors and designers, many of whom are local, should be proud of the project because it was built with quality in mind and yet met an aggressive schedule,” said Kevin Skinner, vice president and district manager, PCL Ottawa. “Congratulations to all on an excellent project which PCL is proud to accept an award of excellence at the CDBI annual conference on behalf of the team.”
The CDBI Awards of Excellence are presented annually to recognize excellence in Canada’s design-build industry and to acknowledge design-build teams whose projects contribute to the growth and stature of the design-build profession.
