EDMONTON, Alberta (Nov. 07, 2013) – PCL Construction’s Edmonton-area companies celebrated their largest United Way campaign fundraising total in history, after raising more than $2.45 million for United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.
“This campaign showed how dedicated PCLers are to giving back to the communities in which we work and live,” said PCL campaign chair and general counsel Steve Richards. “I’m proud of how our organization rallies together in support of United Way and its member agencies.”

This year’s campaign total of $2.45 million surpasses PCL’s previous record donation of $2.3 million in 2012, which was the largest donation from a private-sector contributor ever received by the agency. Including this year’s campaign total, PCL has donated $14.8 million to the Alberta Capital Region agency.
“PCL’s continuing support makes a significant impact in the local community,” said Anne Smith, United Way Alberta Capital Region president and CEO. “They are helping to fund essential programs and services that can change the social conditions and lives of those in need and help lead us to our shared vision of a poverty-free region.”
The PCL United Way campaign gives employees the opportunity to contribute by donating money and participating in special events. One of the most successful 2013 campaign events challenged Edmonton-area districts to bring items for donation to the Edmonton Food Bank, a member agency of United Way. More than 70,000 individual food items were donated and $5,600 in cash was raised.
“We are very grateful for this tremendous initiative. PCL offers ongoing support throughout the year and this food drive is a wonderful team-building, friendly competition to get everyone engaged. Bravo,” said Tamisan Bencz-Knight, manager of Strategic Relationships & Partnerships at Edmonton’s Food Bank.
PCL began partnering with United Way in 1969. Districts throughout North America participate in annual campaigns to help raise money for local United Way agencies. Last year, PCL Construction donated over $7.1 million to agencies in Canada and the US.
