CALGARY, Alberta – The PCL family of companies is proud to support Canadian Olympic track cycling team member Monique Sullivan on her journey to the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games. Sullivan will represent Canada in the sprint and Keirin events.
“We encourage all Canadians to support Monique as she goes for gold at the 2012 London Olympics,” said Brad Nelson, PCL president and COO, Canadian Buildings. “We support Monique because her dedication to the sport, determination, and commitment to excellence are traits we foster at PCL.”
Sullivan is a 14-time National Champion and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist who recently established a new Canadian record in the 200 metre sprint in her final tune-up event before the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games.
“Without the support I received from PCL I simply would not have been able to compete at a world-class level and secure a spot for the Olympic Games,” said the 23-year old Sullivan.”PCL’s support has made my dreams come true, and I am forever grateful. Thank you for believing in me, and I hope to make Canada proud in London 2012!”
To secure a spot for the Olympic Games, Sullivan had to achieve a qualifying standard that puts her in the top twelve fastest cyclists in the world for her event.
Sullivan races in the Keirin event, where riders follow a motorized pacer who gradually increases in speed and leaves the track just over 600 metres before the finish, allowing the riders to race for the win, on August 3. The sprint events begin on August 5.
PCL is committed to supporting the communities where it operates and to investing in amateur sport. One of PCL’s largest community endeavors is through the Canadian Commonwealth Games Foundation. PCL has been a supporter of Commonwealth Games Canada since 2002, and to date has raised more than $1.3 million to support Canadian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games.
