Melbourne, Australia (July 18, 2016) – The PCL family of companies is pleased to announce the completion of the $1.1 billion dollar Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC).
On June 28, 2016, the Victorian Government issued a Certificate of Commercial Acceptance, stating Plenary Health had achieved the milestone on the originally-scheduled date of June 14, 2016. Patients have since moved in and the facility is 100 per cent operational.

PCL is part of the hospital’s joint-venture design-build team with Melbourne-based Grocon (GPCL). GPCL belongs to the Plenary Health consortium, which is contracted to design, build, finance and maintain the facility for 25 years under a public private partnership (P3) with the Victorian Government.

“It’s been more than a four-year journey to build this amazing cancer centre,” said Rob Holmberg, PCL President & COO, Canadian & Australian Operations. “We’re extremely proud of the entire project team, who have, through the efforts of this design-build-finance-maintain corsortium, contributed to delivering a facility that will enrich Australia’s abilities and advances in cancer research and treatment.”

The state-of-the-art cancer centre includes 96 overnight inpatient beds, 110 same-day beds, a dedicated clinical trials unit, accommodation for families of country patients, more than 20,000 square metres of dedicated research space for up to 1,200 researchers, eight operating theatres, two procedure rooms, eight radiation therapy bunkers, and education and training facilities. The new 13-story building, six of those stories below grade, also includes bridge links to new facilities at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Plenary Group Chairman John O’Rourke said, “To achieve the on-time delivery of this $1.1 billion project is a fantastic achievement for the whole Plenary Health consortium. After working with PCL on more than $6 billion worth of public-private partnerships across North America over the past decade, the majority of those health-care related, we knew their experience and capability building hospitals would help the VCCC project set the bar as one of the top cancer centres in the world”.
