Project Overview

This design-build project for the 13th Air Support Operations Squadron at Fort Carson consisted of a 35,710-square-foot, single-level headquarters building with administrative, training, and vehicle and radio maintenance functions. Adjacent to the main building’s hardstand is a 14,460-square-foot covered storage and parking building for forty Humvees. The facility was constructed on an 11-acre greenfield site.

By phasing the design and procurement into two packages, PCL completed the project 85 days ahead of the client’s schedule. This early delivery allowed Air Force personnel to begin advanced training with a new simulator well ahead of their anticipated date.

As of result of PCL’s sustainable design and construction practices, the Fort Carson Public Affairs Office featured this project as a model for Fort Carson’s commitment to sustainable development. The LEED Silver-certified facility reduces energy costs by 37.1%, reduces water usage by 53.5%, and diverted 70.7% of construction waste from landfills.
