Located on the York University campus, the Accolade Building provides state-of-the art teaching space at one of Canada’s leading universities. This project involved the construction of two buildings: the 344,445-square-foot West Building , and the 667,362-square-foot East Building. The West Building is primarily academic space, featuring 300- and 400-seat lecture halls, various classrooms, computer labs, and student art galleries. The East Building is primarily a fine arts-related space, with a 500-seat IMAX-type lecture/presentation hall, a proscenium theater, a recital hall, screening rooms, and classrooms. The second floor of the East Building contains double-height teaching studios for music, theater, and dance faculties. The studios, along with performance spaces, incorporate stringent acoustic criteria and special finishes, such as dance and acoustic flooring systems.
The building was completed without disruption to campus life, showing PCL’s strength in working closely with owners to ensure a project advances while normal operations continue.
