Bordered by the lakeshore and located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Air Canada Centre (ACC) is home to two professional sports franchises: the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) and the Toronto Raptors (NBA). It holds a 65,000-square-foot arena and a 165,000-square-foot office tower. Also onsite is an east-west galleria, abutting the busiest transit station in Canada. The galleria is a covered, climate-controlled walkway housing the ticket offices and food court, as well as the commercial units and display artifacts from the old Canada Post Building. The building now provides a heritage façade to three sides of the ACC.
This project was delivered as a design-build effort, led by PCL. A mid-construction change in ownership and an eight-week labor strike threatened the timeline, but through constant monitoring and active communication, the project team was still able to finish the project five weeks in advance.
