Amerprise Client Service Center is a 1.2-million-square-foot, 15-story, Class A office tower located in downtown Minneapolis. It features four levels of underground parking, a full-service athletic club, a medical clinic, data center, and a Maya Lin-designed winter garden in its lobby. The center is owner-occupied and home to over 4,000 Ameriprise employees.
Maya Lin is the renowned designer of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. Her contribution to the Ameriprise building was a large glass box near the main entrance. She used birch trees, granite benches, an uneven wooden floor, and a wall of water to bring a natural environment inside the building.
The building also includes state-of-the-art systems to regulate energy usage. All major electrical motors are equipped with variable frequency drives. Its Building Automation System monitors more than 30,000 control set points to maximize energy efficiency. The building is free cooled, meaning that outside airflow is maximized to reduce mechanical demand. Even the heat from the data rooms is transferred through the water wall feature to reduce the need for air conditioning.
