Aquatica, SeaWorld's Waterpark, is a 58-acre waterpark located on SeaWorld's property in Orlando. Featuring 36 waterslides, two lazy river rides, two side-by-side wave pools, and an 88,000-square-foot beach area, the park can hold a Florida record of 16,000 people at a time. This project included site work, area development, themed restaurants, gift shops, restrooms and locker rooms, a maintenance building, an administration building, and mechanical support buildings.
The value engineering required for this project was particularly challenging due to the client’s high quality standards. The PCL team had to get creative, and was ultimately able to reduce costs in numerous areas: for example, changing thick-set wall tile to thin-set resulted saved $41,250; installing aluminum lockers instead of stainless steel ones saved $50,000. PCL’s dedication to meeting the client’s quality demands on a cost-effective budget resulted in a world-class waterpark that has received high praise from theme park enthusiasts and the media alike.
