The Athabasca Capacity Expansion (ACE) Project is Enbridge's approach to increasing the annual line capacity from 370 kbpd to 570 kbpd. The Elk Point and Vermillion sites are pump stations that have been added to accommodate the ACE Project's flow requirements. Each site is located within 40 kilometers of Vermillion, and the two sites are approximately 60 kilometers apart. The scope of work at each site included site preparation and grading, construction of access roads, and the construction of large concrete pump bases. The pump bases were completed in three pours/base, with the three Elk Point bases poured on Ethafoam, and the four Vermillion bases poured on piles.
This project was successfully completed ahead of schedule with zero recordable incidents and a lost-time frequency rate of zero.
