This project consists of a five-level, cast-in-place parking structure of over 236,000 square feet, and includes two structural steel bridges to an adjacent parkade (also constructed by PCL). The new parkade connects with the existing Hudson's Bay Canada store structure at Levels 1 and 3. The 475-stall parkade contains a dry sprinkler system, owing to its proximity to the adjacent building, and a new Hudson’s Bay loading dock. The new parking garage features interior ramps and a five-level passenger elevator. It is clad in an Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) and features curtain-wall glazing and perforated aluminum panels.
To prevent traffic congestion and ensure the safety of pedestrians while the parking structure underwent demolition and reconstruction, PCL obtained permission from the municipal bus transit authority to use the existing bus lanes for construction-vehicle access. Doing so minimized vehicular congestion on existing residential access roads leading into the mall. The use of the existing bus lanes allowed PCL to significantly reduce the risk of traffic-related safety incidents by keeping all construction vehicles from circulating through the adjoining neighborhoods.
