Project Overview

A complex, inner-city development, the Bridgepoint Active Healthcare project in Toronto, Ontario, features a new 680,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art acute-care facility with 464 beds over ten floors. The project has achieved LEED Silver certification and includes public roads, park lands, existing hospital relocation, and the restoration of Toronto’s historic Don Jail.

The new hospital was delivered under the Government of Ontario’s Alternative Finance and Procurement (AFP) model, which uses the strengths of private sector partners to modernize, upgrade, and expand Ontario’s public infrastructure, while stimulating economic benefits such as job creation. PCL and consortial partners, Plenary Health, partnered with Infrastructure Ontario and Bridgepoint Health to design, build, finance, and maintain the new facility for 30 years after completion. At the peak of construction, approximately 40 subcontractors and 450 workers were on-site daily.
