The Canadian Coast Guard Maritime Headquarters is a six-story administrative facility for the Maritime division of the Canada Coast Guard. The lowest level supports vehicle and field equipment storage, as well as maintenance and equipment repair shops. The remaining levels house the Coast Guard’s administrative and personnel training functions. The building incorporates nautical motifs in form, materials, and textures. The building is a cast-in-place structure clad in a combination of precast architectural panels and glazed and aluminum curtain wall. Interior materials and color schemes reflect the maritime environment of southern Nova Scotia.
As the design-builder on this project, PCL has taken it upon themselves to find ways to deliver an exceptionally designed facility in a cost-effective manner. Through the value-engineering process, the PCL team has indicated areas of saving for the owner, which will result in a decrease in the overall contract value.
