Capitol Theatre at Fort Edmonton Park

Project Overview

The Capitol Theatre provides a year-round, 243-seat entertainment venue for local drama, theater, and music. The reconstructed theater building recreates the former 1929 Jasper Avenue facade, and internally the building incorporates modern construction methods with the necessary technical infrastructure while still achieving historical authenticity.

PCL acted as construction manager for the Capitol Theatre project. The project was built using traditional construction methods, but with the assistance of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Clash detection was used as a look-ahead tool to pre-identify possible challenges to avoid rework during the construction phase.

The facility includes state-of-the-art 4-D visual fixtures, furniture, and equipment features, and provides those visiting the park with a 15-minute historical walk through Edmonton’s history.
