Cardel Place (Nose Creek Recreation & Library Facility)

Project Overview

As the first LEED Gold project in Alberta, Cardel Place is a 194,000-square-foot building incorporating a diverse assortment of community and athletic venues. Two NHL-style hockey rinks, a large gymnasium, a swimming pool, a fitness center, a library, and common areas are all on offer for the residents of and around Nose Creek. The building design incorporates wide open spaces with a large clerestory near the main entrance, and other enhanced glazing sections. The exterior is architecturally unique, with a multitude of different elevations, angles, and details that enhance the visual appeal.

PCL chaired biweekly LEED construction meetings, exceeding the client’s expectations in several areas. The team’s proactively designed waste management system, for example, diverted over 75% of construction waste from landfills. This achievement exceeded the specified requirements and counted for additional LEED credit.
