PCL worked extensively with hospital and clinic user groups during design of the CentraCare Health Plaza, a new 330,000-square-foot ambulatory care clinic. Located on a 130-acre site in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the plaza is a part of CentraCare Health System, which also includes St. Cloud Hospital. In addition to partnering with user groups by providing mock-ups to determine optimum room and equipment layouts, PCL teamed with the designers at the schematic stage to align final design and facility functions with the business plan for CentraCare. The resulting facility, delivered on schedule and below budget, is two stories above grade and one level below, with the ability to accomodate three aditional floors. The building’s exterior is an attractive combination of face brick, precast concrete, glass curtain wall, and metal panels. The main entrance is defined by a 70-foot-tall iconic light tower.
The project also included all site clearing; grading; utilities; 1,300 stalls of surface parking; a new ring road; landscaping; prairie grass plantings; irrigation; retention ponds; and hardscaping.
