Colomac Gold Mine

Project Overview

PCL undertook the complete construction of this gold mine, located 125 miles north of Yellowknife. Included in the installation of the 11,000-ton-per-day process plant were six 2.5-megawatt diesel generators, one 32-foot-diameter-by-10-foot SAG mill, two 14-foot-diameter-by-30-foot ball mils, and related crushing, grinding, and process equipment. Infrastructure development included construction of a 350-man camp; a 5,100-foot airstrip; a tailings system and dam; site roads; a tank farm; offices; and maintenance facilities.

The logistics of transporting labor, materials, and equipment by aircraft or winter road was only one of the many challenges that the PCL team successfully overcame during this major undertaking. Despite all obstacles, the project was completed three weeks ahead of schedule.
