This two-leaf bascule bridge spans the Intracoastal Waterway near Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The structural steel leaves are operated by trunnion-based machinery. PCL performed a comprehensive restoration of the existing bridge for the Florida Department of Transportation.
The PCL project team repaired deteriorating steel, upgraded deteriorating concrete, modified architectural elements, and replaced the existing drive machinery and control system, all while maintaining traffic on the bridge. The project team successfully worked with the client’s designer to ensure that additional scope items were constructed without delaying the project’s completion date.
