Edmonton Clinic Health Academy is a 570,000-square-foot teaching, research, and administration facility for the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medical Sciences. Working in tandem with its clinical counterpart facility to the south, Edmonton Clinic Health Academy will integrate teams of health science researchers in a state-of-the-art ambulatory care facility. Three lower levels house teaching and research facilities, including four 250-seat lecture theaters, while the three upper levels offer office and meeting space, administration, and teaching labs.
The client had a tight schedule and limited budget, in addition to concerns about the impact of construction on local traffic and the nearby Jubilee Auditorium. PCL participated in town-hall meetings to hear concerns, then helped develop a successful traffic logistics plan. PCL also developed a 4D (pictorial time-based) schedule for the building structure, and held numerous planning sessions with subcontractors, resulting in successful just-in-time material deliveries and building completion. PCL’s risk manager and estimators expanded their budgeting and estimating calls to global regions, meeting the client’s budget expectations.
