This pump station project in Glenboro, Manitoba, called for a complete upgrade and switchover of the station’s electrical services building. PCL Intracon Power installed the 70,000-pound building and all associated power, instrumentation, and control services; completed modifications to the existing 66-kilovolt substation; and undertook a significant amount of civil work to facilitate many underground installations. For the civil scope, local PCL forces out of the Winnipeg office were brought in to provide the client a turnkey project execution.
The client needed to ensure safe completion of several high-risk activities in very small windows of time, including the 66-kilovolt substation modifications, corresponding tie-in to the upgraded equipment, and the complete switchover from old to new site-wide services. Despite delays on some of the materials and equipment, the PCL Intracon project team completed the construction and switchover on schedule, allowing the client’s commissioning team to meet their critical schedule as well.
