Flagler Memorial Bascule Bridge Replacement

Project Overview

This project consists of the complete replacement of an existing bascule bridge with a new four-lane divided urban-section bascule bridge. The proposed bridge’s typical section includes 12-foot travel lanes, 8-foot shoulders, and a 15.5-foot median. Sidewalks will be included along both sides of the new bridge, with a pedestrian/bicycle railing on the outside of the sidewalks.

The approach span superstructure will be comprised of prestressed concrete haunch bulb-T beams and haunched fascia beams. The approach spans will consist of 8.5-foot concrete decks, while the bascule spans will be concrete-filled exodermic decking. The new bascule spans will provide 21 feet of vertical clearance when closed, unlimited vertical clearance when open, and 125 feet of horizontal clearance between bridge fenders.
