The Frobisher Inn is a 46-room hotel in Iqaluit, Nunavut. This renovation project called for a vertical two-floor addition to the existing three-story building, renovation to the main-level mall, and construction of a new main entry. The addition was formed of a steel structure with slab on deck and a precast building envelope. The main-level renovations called for a complete strip mall facelift, including new floor, wall, and ceiling finishes, as well as a new main entry complete with a vestibule.
Remote locations present labor and logistical challenges, and the Frobisher Inn was no exception. This project was awarded in early June, resulting in a late start for a site accessible only by ship in the summer months. PCL used a combination of local and imported workers on a six-day shift rotation in order to maintain schedule through an active cultural season. The project was proudly delivered on schedule.
