Hollywood Bascule Bridge Rehabilitation

Project Overview

PCL worked with the Florida Department of Transportation on this project to modernize the Hollywood Bascule Bridge in Hollywood, Florida. PCL’s contribution included refurbishing bridge hydraulics, replacing electrical components and controls, constructing architectural handrails and a gatehouse, upgrading traffic rails, and modifying the existing control house.

This project was a key part of the client’s community revitalization effort. The PCL project team carefully coordinated architectural features such as the ornamental balustrade, architectural metal railings, sandstone medallions, and copper dome roof materials to fulfill the vision of adding architectural improvements to the community.

During construction, a closure period was required to modify the mechanical components of the bridge. The project team worked closely with the client to overcome restrictive roadway and channel closures, and completed the work ahead of schedule.
