In just three months, the Special Projects Division renovated and expanded the Italian Centre Shop’s 2,500-square-foot, in-store café and bakery. The renovation occurred within an active business, making it key for PCL to limit disturbances to the business and meet the project schedule. The project team went above and beyond the typical signage requirements and worked with the owner to produce directional signage that ensured customers knew how to access the business during construction.
A key feature of the new space is high-end floor tile from Italy. The procurement and delivery of the tile set a particular challenge for the project team, drove the project’s schedule, and required significant attention from the team to ensure its timely arrival. To ensure the tile arrived on time, PCL communicated daily with the supplier in Italy to monitor shipping progress.
Rigorous attention to detail, proactive planning, and strong communication with the consultant and trades helped the team achieve the client’s vision while completing the renovation on time and on budget.
