MGCS Data Centre

Project Overview

This data center was established by the Government of Ontario's enterprise-level hosting of mission critical business applications. The purpose of the facility is to improve IT services and assist Ontario with implementing its goal of becoming an e-government. Situated on a 25-acre site that abuts an environmentally significant wetlands area, the facility contains a 30,000-square-foot raised floor data center with provisions for future expansion and all mechanical and electrical infrastructure required to provide continuous delivery of IT services. In addition to the data center are a central utilities plant, office and support areas, print facility, and Contingency Response Centres (CRC) for long-term stays during emergency situations.

PCL delivered the design-build solution within a design-build-finance-maintain contract for the Province of Ontario. Within this delivery approach, many innovations were applied to reduce the energy requirements of the building and improve the reliability of its performance. The data center has achieved LEED Certified level and has been recognized by the Uptime Institute for achieving Tier IV classification (the highest possible rating).
