Constructed adjacent to the environmentally sensitive Salt Creek Open Space, this 29-acre, rural-themed park honors the history of the site’s former role as ranchland. The park contains a variety of amenities including three multipurpose fields, a softball field, basketball and tennis courts, a skate park, a dog park, playground areas, walking trails, and sheltered picnic areas. One of the main features of the park is a 21,144-square-foot community center that includes a full gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, a teaching kitchen, and other various support areas.
The existing soils contained a high level of sandstone content. In order to successfully grow and maintain the extensive landscaping, a substantial ripping and leaching process was needed. The cost to do this work using conventional bulldozing equipment with ripper shanks was going to be costly and schedule-prohibitive. The PCL team came up with the alternative method of using a Caterpillar RM350B Reclaimer/Mixer for the job. This piece of heavy equipment is designed and used for the scarification and reclamation of asphalt materials from roadways. After a successful test of the unit, PCL used this equipment to save both two weeks on the schedule and tens of thousands of dollars for the client.
