This project consists of the removal and reconstruction of the existing 3,050-foot-long, 136-foot-wide I-95 bridge over the Housatonic River. The project team will also construct three single-span bridges (two steel girder and one AASHTO girder), as well as 13 piers and caps in three stages. A combination of conventional crawler cranes, overhead gantry cranes, and a lateral launch rolling system will be used to erect the 48-ton beams. Other associated work includes roadway embankment, drainage, mechanically stabilized earth walls, fenders, roadway electrical, and asphalt paving.
Despite a contract schedule of 78 months, the PCL project team has committed to complete all work in 60 months to save both time and money for the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
