New Air Terminal Building

Project Overview

This international air terminal building is found in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, the closest settlement to the North Magnetic Pole. This 6,000-square-foot facility includes administration offices, ticket counters, a gift shop, passenger holding areas, and freight handling areas. In addition to serving the community of Resolute Bay, this facility will also act as a staging terminal for the north and for exploration work near the North Pole.

Working on a tight four-month schedule and dependant on the area’s single annual sealift, the PCL project team found shipping and receiving to be a tremendous challenge throughout construction. To mitigate the challenges, PCL preplanned the entire project and determined the exact weight of the building. Every material item was known, ensuring all materials required were crated for northern storage and shipped. Despite the odds, PCL built this project on time and on budget.
