Comprising the North Bay General Hospital and the Northeast Mental Health Centre, the North Bay Regional Health Centre offers 750,000 square feet of medical services for North Bay and surrounding communities. With a large emergency department, forensic psychiatric beds, specialized mental health beds, a mall, and a gymnasium among its many offerings, this two-building facility is linked via common entrances and shared areas. PCL implemented many value-engineering solutions during construction, including a unique pipe-rack system attached to the air-handling units, which utilize less space and increase efficiency.
The center was delivered under the Government of Ontario’s Alternative Finance and Procurement (AFP) model, which utilizes the strengths of private-sector partners to modernize, upgrade, and expand Ontario’s public infrastructure, while stimulating economic benefits such as job creation. PCL partnered with Plenary Group (Canada) Limited and Johnson Controls LP to build, finance, and operate the new facility.
