Orlando World Center Marriott - Exhibit Hall Expansion

Project Overview

The Orlando World Center Marriott Exhibit Hall Expansion called for 251,700 square feet of prefunction lobby space, new service areas, a kitchen space, and an entrance foyer, as well as a challenging tie-in to the existing spaces. The project also includes a 160,000-square-foot, three-story parking garage. All of the concrete work for this project was self-performed by PCL.

Originally, the specifications called for a welded wire mesh concrete mix on certain areas of the job, but PCL saved the client money by advocating for fiber mesh reinforcing instead. Altering the normal batch plant mixing process by first placing the fiber mesh in the drum and the concrete ingredients immediately thereafter, the PCL team saw more evenly distributed fibers, and the owner was credited $6,200.
